Position Summary

We currently have an exciting full-time opportunity for a Policy & Public Affairs Officer to join our team.  This role is based in CUTA’s Ottawa office and requires the ability to travel. Bilingualism is a must as is a proven track record in advocacy/GR, and the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in other locations.

Reporting to the Director of Public Affairs and Strategic Communications, the Policy & Public Affairs Officer will provide analysis and insight on federal, provincial and municipal policies that impact on public transit. The incumbent will support the development and execution of government relations campaigns and advocacy initiatives that deliver on the transit industry’s policy objectives.

In this role the candidate will seek to influence public policy in favour of transit, including legislative and regulatory developments at the federal and provincial government levels. The Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) is looking to build on a strong track record of effective advocacy for policy and funding initiatives at the national level by fostering deeper relationships with elected representatives and non-elected officials. This includes in areas not limited to transport, infrastructure and communities, industry, finance, environment, natural resources, trade and health. Linking the economic, environmental and social benefits of public transit to these policy portfolios and programs will unlock better outcomes for Canadians, CUTA members and the communities they serve.
