STL Trying out New Smartphone Payment Method in Partnership with ACTOLL

via STL

A new mobile application, which allows the purchase and use of public transit fares by smartphone will be tested all summer long by Société de transport de Laval (STL) employees. A secure one-stop solution with everything inside the phone, this novel payment mode experiment, which will run across the entire bus network territory, comes on the heels of the onboard credit card payment system in seven Laval bus routes. The application was developed jointly with France’s ACTOLL, which has profound experience in public transit in Europe. Along the lines of other STL apps, like STLSynchro+ and MaSTL, this application was dubbed STL billets and works with both, the Apple and Android platforms.

The project is only open to employees at the moment but a second testing phase could include customers later this year. “We are committed to make getting around in Laval easier, especially for occasional public transport users” said STL board president David De Cotis. “Mobile applications are deeply embedded in all aspects of business and this is a worldwide reality. The application we are testing is a time-saving single-window solution that carries out all the operations, from fare purchase to transfers right from your smartphone, which is always on you.”
