The Opportunity

Reporting to the Commissioner of Transportation and Environmental Services, you will lead the planning and delivery of safe, customer-focused, and reliable transit services. You will be responsible for the preparation and execution of an annual business plan covering all mandated services of the Division in concert with the budgeting process. You will make recommendations for inclusion in the Transportation Master Plan and direct strategic operational planning/implementation of the service. You will lead a diverse team of dedicated employees who make a difference every day by enhancing our world-class transit system to be inclusive and encouraging of ridership from all sectors.

As the Director, Transit Services, you will lead through effective communication, collaboration and innovative problem-solving, while ensuring corporate compliance with legislation, policies, and procedures, and related to key initiatives. Your team will include professionals in the areas of Transit Operations, Marketing, Communications, Community Engagement, Transit Development, Finance and Administration.

Bring Your Experience to the Region of Waterloo

As our ideal candidate, you will have a post-secondary education in engineering, science, business administration, or an equivalent field, plus significant, progressively responsible experience in transit management. You have strong experience leading within a unionized environment and the demonstrated ability to inspire others to work toward common goals by engaging and empowering them, and providing them direction. You have comprehensive knowledge of transportation and transit operations and administration, marketing and property management, and the ability to direct the development of engineering, operational, administrative and financial planning. You should have knowledge of current and emerging issues within the Region of Waterloo as they affect the Transit Services Division, and knowledge of applicable legislation and related regulations. You must have experience in preparing operating and capital budgets and creating business plans.
