New Brunswick should support public transit

The Canadian Urban Transit Association is calling on the New Brunswick government to support public transit and the people who depend on it.

The province has opted out of the transit component of the safe restart agreement announced last week. Without provincial support, federal dollars will not flow to New Brunswick public transit systems as they will in other provinces.

“New Brunswick should support public transit and its riders. By leaving money on the table, New Brunswick risks service cuts which in turn will lead to more crowded vehicles,” said Marco D’Angelo, CUTA’s CEO. “Public transit is vital for many essential workers, seniors, and lower-income New Brunswickers. We urge Premier Higgs to change course and support public transit.”
