Transit numbers reach record highs
Belleville public transit rider numbers continue to grow and September realized record breaking increases in both the ridership in a single month and the number of monthly passes sold.
Transit rider numbers hovered just below the one million rider milestone in 2017, the City of Belleville reported Friday. In 2018, Belleville Transit celebrated its one millionth rider on November 26 and, this year, if numbers continue to climb, the one millionth rider benchmark could be met by October’s end.
For the first time, an excess of 2,000 monthly passes were sold and the total ridership in September was 133,141 – a new Belleville Transit record for ridership in a single month. This averages 4,591 passengers per day. The current year-to-date ridership is 861,164. Previously, the highest monthly record was 107,913 set in November 2018.
