Winnipeg Transit needs a boost
via Winnipeg Sun
Out-of-date public transit isn’t just an inconvenience. It’s a drain on productivity, economic growth, tourism and the well-being of the people who depend on it.
It’s 8:45 a.m. and you’re late for work, again. You would rather be doing your job but congestion on Pembina Highway is holding you back, again. Winnipeg, we have a traffic problem.
Some 15 million people commute to work in Canada. According to Statistics Canada, almost 70% of these commuters leave for work between 6 and 9 a.m. which creates congested roads and affects the quality of life for millions of Canadians. With a lack of infrastructure, congestion and a transit union battle well underway, the city’s public transportation has seen better days. If we want to keep Winnipeg moving, we need a boost.
