Learning Series – Microtransit: reimagining mobility in your community
July 29 from 3:00-4:30pm Eastern
Transit systems across Canada are implementing microtransit to improve the rider experience. Microtransit, or on-demand transit, can act a strong alternative to fixed-route networks. It’s cost effective—and is often a more reliable mobility option for seniors, people living with disabilities, and rural residents.
This new mobility service takes passengers from door-to-door, or directly to transit hubs. In CUTA’s upcoming learning series, we will explore the benefits of microtransit technology from a transit system and provider perspective. Joining us for this presentation will be Jim McDonald from Saskatoon Transit and Arjan Van Andel from Uber.Register here
Learning Series – Public transit: connecting Canadians to Covid vaccines
August 12 from 3:00-4:30pm Eastern
We all know that the pandemic has turned the transit industry upside down. Before Covid, ridership was rising. But as ridership plummeted during Covid, Canadian systems’ high farebox recovery rates caused steep revenue shortfalls. As of July, ridership was only about a third of pre-Covid levels.
Despite these challenges, systems have maintained high service levels because many Canadians still rely on transit. When the vaccination rollout started, transit stepped up even more. Systems from coast-to-coast have used vehicles to get Canadians to their vaccine appointments—often at no charge. CUTA’s next learning series will bring together a panel of experts to discuss how transit can continue to support this crucial effort.Register here
