PURPOSE
The purpose of the Transit Facilities Update Study is to develop and evaluate options to meet the growth, space, and operational requirements of transit services through 2051. The efficiency and optimization of these facilities directly affects the level of transit services provided to our community at large. The Transit Facilities Update Study should develop a roadmap for facility improvements and growth to allow the Region to proactively plan and budget for the changing needs of the community.
In particular, GRT’s Conestoga Facility has been identified as being at or near its end-of-life by GRT and is currently in need of major upgrades. This bus facility is no longer operating as efficiently as required and expansion of the current site is limited. As part of the Transit Facilities Update Study process, the Region wishes to begin an evaluation of the current and new candidate sites within the City of Cambridge suitable for a new GRT bus depot to replace the Conestoga Facility.
