BC Transit Wins Marketing & Communications Award
BC Transit received the Marketing & Communications Award at CUTA’s 2025 Awards Ceremony in Montreal.
The handyDART Operations and Maintenance Centre in Greater Victoria, a LEED Gold, battery-electric facility, demonstrates how community collaboration can turn opposition into success. Initially met with strong resistance over environmental and neighbourhood concerns, BC Transit engaged residents, Indigenous groups, and stream keepers to co-design the project, restore Craigflower Creek, and reduce impacts. Students, Indigenous youth, and residents in recovery programs contributed to planting and habitat work, while innovative engagement, real-time monitoring, and early delivery of landscaping-built trust. The centre now serves growing demand for door-to-door transit, sets a new benchmark for BC Transit engagement, and delivers lasting benefits to both transit users and the broader community.
