Mike Bismeyer Wins Edward J. Dowling Distinguished Service Award
Mike Bismeyer received the Edward J. Dowling Distinguished Service Award at CUTA’s 2025 Awards Ceremony in Montreal.
Mike Bismeyer is a seasoned leader, mentor, and advocate with more than 17 years of experience shaping the Canadian transit industry. As Global Business Development Manager at CarMedialab, he helps agencies across North America transition to zero-emission fleets, guiding them through electrification strategies, infrastructure integration, and operational planning.
Earlier in his career, Mike was a leading advocate for operator and passenger safety, pioneering the adoption of on-board surveillance systems in transit and school buses. His work helped shift surveillance from a controversial idea to an industry standard, strengthened safety culture, and supported legislation recognizing assaults on operators as criminal offences.
Over the past six and a half years, he has been at the forefront of Canada’s zero-emission transition, working closely with agencies to overcome technical, financial, and operational barriers to fleet electrification. His leadership has influenced procurement, planning, and national policy discussions on sustainable transit.
Beyond his technical expertise, Mike is a passionate mentor and community leader. Through his “Kindness is Cool” initiative, school outreach, and involvement in CUTA’s mentorship and youth programs, he has inspired a culture of inclusion, empathy, and leadership development in transit. He has served on CUTA’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee and currently chairs its Business Members Committee.
A recipient of CUTA’s Individual Leadership Award for Excellence and the Savita Shah Award for Kindness, Compassion & Advocacy, Mike’s legacy is defined by advancing safety, accelerating zero-emission adoption, and building a more compassionate and resilient transit industry.
