MiWay, Durham Region Transit, along with the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Organization, receive EDI Award at CUTA’s 2025 Awards Ceremony in Montreal.

MiWay and Durham Region Transit have become two of Canada’s first municipal transit agencies to join the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, helping riders with invisible disabilities travel more safely and comfortably. Launched in fall 2024, the program allows customers to wear a discreet Sunflower lanyard, signaling to transit staff that they may need extra support, patience, or time. MiWay and DRT have trained employees, incorporated the program into operations and outreach, and raised public awareness through marketing and community partnerships. Lanyards are free, require no registration, and aim to create a more inclusive, respectful, and welcoming transit experience for all riders.
