Sylvain Yelle Wins William G. Ross Lifetime Achievement Award

Sylvain Yelle received the William G. Ross Lifetime Achievement Award at CUTA’s 2025 Awards Ceremony in Montreal. 

Sylvain Yelle is a pioneering figure in Canadian public transit with over 37 years of experience, including seven years as CEO of exo. Beginning his career as a bus driver, he progressed through leadership roles at the Société de transport de Laval (STL) before joining exo, where he has shaped an integrated, modern, and sustainable transit network serving Montreal suburbs. 

Mr. Yelle is recognized for his strategic vision, innovative approach, and ability to mobilize multidisciplinary teams. Under his leadership, exo has achieved major milestones, including the integration of 14 intermunicipal transportation councils, modernization of rail and bus systems, electrification of the fleet through the exobus program, and development of pilot projects, on-demand services, and mobility hubs that respond to community needs. 

A committed advocate for accessibility, sustainability, and community-focused transit, Sylvain has also contributed extensively to provincial and national forums, boards, and committees, influencing policy, partnerships, and the broader discourse on mobility in Quebec and Canada. His leadership combines technical expertise with a human-centered approach, inspiring teams, stakeholders, and the next generation of transit professionals. 

As he steps down in 2025, his legacy is a more integrated, efficient, and user-focused transit system, positioning exo as a key player in sustainable mobility.
