Transit Systems Applaud Federal Climate Plan

Published March 29, 2022.

Ottawa—The Canadian Urban Transit Association today applauded the federal government’s 2030 climate plan, released today by Environment and Climate Change Minister Steven Guilbeault.

“Transit systems are grateful for the government recognizing their importance to reducing emissions,” said Marco D’Angelo, President of CUTA. “Transit is part of the climate solution, and with electrification and better land use planning we can play an even bigger role.”

CUTA also applauded the government’s acknowledgement that transit’s climate impacts can be magnified by encouraging housing intensification and effective land-use planning in communities. The potential linking of denser development to federal transit investments is particularly welcome, as is the new goal of helping transit displace individual car use.
