York Region Transit received the Innovation Award at the 2024 CUTA Awards Ceremony.

The Regional Municipality of York, home to over 1.25 million residents, operates York Region Transit (YRT) across 1,700 square kilometres, serving 80,000 daily commuters. In May 2023, YRT installed CITYROVER’s AI smart camera system on select buses to automatically inspect over 6,050 bus stops.

This technology captures images, processes data in real time, and generates reports on stop conditions. With just eight cameras, YRT can inspect about 50% of bus stops monthly at a cost of $39,600 annually, significantly reducing inspection costs compared to traditional methods. This innovative approach enhances transit facility maintenance, improving service quality and passenger safety.
