CUTA Congratulates Minister Gregor Robertson on Cabinet Appointment

Published May 14, 2025.

The Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) congratulates the Honourable Gregor Robertson on his appointment as Canada’s new Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada.

Minister Robertson brings a proven commitment to sustainable, inclusive urban growth. As the former Chair of the Mayors’ Council on Regional Transportation and a three-term Mayor of Vancouver, he has long been an advocate for public transit. His leadership helped shape landmark investments in Metro Vancouver’s transportation system and left a legacy of strong ridership growth, innovation, and sustainable development.

“Minister Robertson knows what’s at stake for urban mobility,” said Marco D’Angelo, President and CEO of CUTA. “He has seen the difference that well-planned, well-funded transit systems make in people’s lives. We look forward to working with him to deliver the infrastructure, safety, and funding solutions our communities urgently need.”

CUTA is eager to work collaboratively with the Minister to ensure the continuity and timely rollout of the Canada Public Transit Fund, enhance safety and security for transit riders and workers, and bring together all levels of government to address the operational funding needs that directly impact service quality, mobility, and affordability for Canadians.

Prime Minister Carney’s call for bold, nation-building infrastructure investments aligns closely with CUTA’s vision of public transit as a transformative force for Canada’s economy. From connecting people to jobs and education to supporting housing and regional development, transit is a national economic driver with the power to shape more prosperous communities.
