Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) & CNIB Win Lorna Stewart Corporate Leadership Award
Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) and CNIB received the Lorna Stewart Corporate Leadership Award for their “Get on Board” campaign at CUTA’s 2025 Awards Ceremony in Montreal.
Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) provides bus, LRT, On Demand, and paratransit service across Alberta’s capital, delivering over 2.3 million annual service hours with a fleet of 1,000 buses. Committed to accessibility and inclusion, ETS partnered with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) through the Get on Board campaign to better understand and remove barriers for riders with sight loss. Following rider journey exercises and community feedback, ETS developed an accessibility action plan that led to tangible improvements such as enhanced LRT audio announcements, high-contrast curbs and benches, clearer bus signage, and more visible emergency strips. A Rider Respect marketing campaign promoted awareness about visible and invisible disabilities, reaching thousands online and across the network. ETS leadership also completed disability awareness training to strengthen its accessibility-first culture. These initiatives have improved safety, confidence, and inclusion for riders with disabilities, earning CNIB’s praise and positioning ETS as a national leader in accessible transit.
