Transit keeps Canadians moving

Greener transit vehicles

Zero-emission buses have a large role to play in reducing emissions—by more than 1.3 megatonnes a year. But there are significant costs associated with greening transit fleets. Zero-emission buses can cost twice as much as conventional vehicles. Transit depots need to be able to recharge the vehicles, and making transit fleets greener requires significant planning.

The Canadian Urban Transit Association supports more zero-emission buses on the road. Progress has been made to help transit systems and municipalities with the costs of lowering emissions. CUTA asks every party to continue this support, and introduce subsidies to offset the higher purchase price of vehicles.

If all Canada’s buses were zero-emission, we’d lower emissions by more than 1.3 megatonnes a year.
