Today is Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day
March 18 is transit operator and worker appreciation day. To honour the workers who keep more than two million Canadians moving every day, CUTA president Marco D’Angelo made the following statement:
“Millions of Canadians rely on public transit every day, and public transit relies on the people who work in the sector. On transit operator and worker appreciation day, we say thank you. And this year, the day takes on a special significance, coming as it does almost a year to the day since the first lockdown began. Operators have been on the front lines of the pandemic ever since, supported by other workers like maintenance crews and dispatchers. Together, they’ve kept our communities and country running through Covid and deserve our sincere thanks.”
